Oh, the life of a showdog is tough!

Firpo with his full brother (different litter) Tater, November 2009

What can I say .....  Firpo makes me smile.  I adore this dog.

Not only is Firpo one of our homegrown 'babies' he is the first male havanese we've been lucky enough to have in our home.  What a joy!  I spent my 50th birthday whelping his litter and couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the day.

Firpo's full of energy and lives to annoy the other dogs, most of all our 80 pound bulldog Axel.

We're asked frequently how Firpo got his name.  When Buddy was a kid they had a dog named Firpo. I'd been hearing that name for a long time and came to really like it. Luis Angel Firpo was a professional boxer in Argentina in the 1920's.

Firpo has a more elegant conformation, with a nice length of neck, beautiful expression and a gorgeous coat.  He stands just over 10.5" at the withers and weighs 13.5 pounds.

***Firpo's show record***

The weekend of August 18th and 19th, 2007 at the Memphis Mississippi Kennel Club shows, with Arvind de Braganca handling him, Firpo went Winners Dog and Best of Winners on both days.  Saturday for 3 points and Sunday for 2 points.  Firpo begins his show career with 5 points.

Not too bad for his first time with Arvind.

AUGUST 29, 2008 RICHMOND, VIRGINIA
After a 9 month vacation from the show ring.....

Firpo places 2nd in the Open Dog class at the Havanese National Specialty show under judge Dennis McCoy with me handling him.
Way to go Firp!

THEN....I decided to give it another shot and on December 6, 2008 I handled him at the Suwannee Valley Kennel Club shows in Lake City, FL.  Firpo and I don't exactly mesh well together in the show ring BUT he did earn Winners Dog and Best of Winners under Murrel Purkhiser for 1 point .  (no picture taken)

(We then decided to take another little vacation.......)

And so a few months later..... on May 8th, 2009 in Perry, GA at the Southeast Alabama Kennel Club show Firpo won Winners Dog and Best Opposite Sex under judge Peggy Hauck for a 2 point win.   Thank you,  Arvind De Braganca. (no picture received)

(And then yet another little vacation....)

And then FINALLY, a new AKC champion at Gilwood

On December 13th, 2009 at the Brevard Kennel Club show in Orlando, Florida, under judge Alberto Berrios....after a long and winding road full of bumps, mishaps, camping trips and bruises.... Firpo completes his AKC championship by taking Winners Dog and Best of Winners for his final 2 points with his tail not only up but WAGGING, alongside Larry Cornelius .  Thank you Larry and Marcelo, from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you too, Kathy.

Mama's boy is now a champion.

Mama's happy.

So is Mama's boy!
