Quinn is an Irish Red and White Setter, born on St. Patrick's Day.

Derbail roughly translates to Daughter Of Ireland.

Buddy and I finally made the decision to again bring a big dog into our family of havanese.  Our beloved boxer Jake had been gone for over two years and it was time. While looking at the AKC miscellaneous class last year I saw "our dog".  When I mentioned my newest quest to Kathy she wanted to become a part of the adventure.

After doing research we found our Quinn and she flew to our home from Rhode Island.  As of January 1st, 2009 red and whites have been admitted to the AKC Sporting Group.

****Show News****

After showing numerous times with virtually no competition we decided to send Quinn off with Arvind deBraganca to the Marietta, Ohio shows where we were bound to find at least one other red and white to show against.

On Thursay, May 14th, 2009 Quinn went Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite for her first point.

Then on Sunday not only did she go Winners Bitch, she also won Best of Winners and yes,

Best of Breed

for a three point major.

We are thrilled.

From the FCI  standard for the Irish Red and White Setter:

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY :  The Irish Setter probably came to its own at the end of the 17th century. It is not well known outside of Ireland that there are two breeds of Irish Setters, but is fairly certain, that the Red and White Setter is the older of the two, and that judicious selective breeding evolved the solid red colour. When Irish Setters came to the show benches, just past the middle of the 19th century, there was a good deal of confusion about their proper colour. By the end of the 19th century, the Red Setter had virtually eclipsed the Red and White, which became so rare, that they were thought to be extinct. During the 1920s, efforts were made to revive the breed. By 1944, the breed had re-established itself well enough to have a club of its own, and today it can be seen in healthy numbers at Irish shows and Field Trials
