(ok, maybe this doesn't excite the reader but to us, it's like Christmas in July.)
Our Adventure Began......
We've been
toying with the idea of our own flock of chickens for almost two years.
We've read books and even began construction of Buddy's chicken
mansion. I came to the conclusion that unless we had
chickens to put in the chicken coop this idea was never going to come
to fruition.... so I bought a dozen chicks in mid March, 2008.
We have araucanas (which are really easter eggers), buff orpingtons and barred rocks.
They are currently residing in our guestroom. With any luck, they will be living in high style very soon.
Early April and we finally have the coop liveable for the chicks. It's astonishing how fast they grow!
Mid April saw the outside pen area erected and even though it's not quite perfect, the chickens are enjoying the outdoors. We've had an escape or two and I'm still amazed that these hens stick around and come running when we call them.
We can't wait for our first egg and that's not for a few more months.
